I've played on a few of the different servers Devco offers and I've honestly never been displeased by anything. The staff is respectful without being overbearing, the players are generally friendly, and server upkeep is amazing. There's usually enough players to make new friends, while still keeping the small server feel where you can actually get staff's help/attention. 10/10, would recommend to anyone looking for a server to call home.

This server is fantastic. The staff are friendly and the community is not acidic like other communities. Plus the servers run pretty smoothly.

The Staff Is great when you have a problem they are so quick to respond but i've had a couple bad run in's with staff in the year and a half ish that i've been playing on this server. Overall the server is great, but when binge playing, the restarts that happen every 3 hours seem really fast, I Dont Know if thats good or bad, but the days seem to slip away on here.

This server is working quite well. Some players experience lag spikes once a day. Seems to have appropriate rules. Frequently saves and restarts. ( Every 30 minutes ) Lots of moderators/admins, they are very available.

Devco is a minecraft server hub with many servers and many admins. While this is a good thing to have, the admins rely on their custom script DAP in order to find issues on the servers. As of lately, every time an issue has come up, admins have flocked to fix the issue by removing what ever DAP says is causing an issue. It has been wrong consistently and many players builds have had to be heavily modified or completely redone due to admins removing things. The real kicker of this whole situation is, DAP will automatically remove things it thinks are in bad shape. So as of lately, all the admins have been doing is trying to remove things "BEFORE" DAP says they are really an issue. DAP has been wrong consistently lately. Flagging a zombie near me or a machine part that has been running for over a month problem free. The custom script needs updating but good luck telling the devs that.
BTW none of the lag or latency issues have actually been fixed in the 3 months Ive been playing there. They simply get better when the player who is actually causing it logs off.
I stopped playing there when I got over frustrated trying to complete a quest that required an item, couldnt be completed because the item would vanish as picked up, making the quest unable to be completed. This was the tip of the iceberg or straw that broke the camels back.
The word lag is censored in chat so you cant complain about the lag that is obviously there as the admins are constantly removing peoples builds "TRYING" to fix an issue that isnt related to the stuff being removed. The issue is more than the word lag though as 1 out of every 5 or so times I tried to chat, my chat didnt go through as though it had been censored but there was no text message like there would be if a swear word was used and I was unable to chat at all for a small duration. The chat filter is bugged and constantly complained about but never fixed.
Trying to go through a nether portal can be a game all by itself. The servers are set to allow instant teleportation back via nether portal and this means you get sent back to the overworld before the nether even loads.. again something heavily complained about but not fixed.
Any items that would effect day or weather are banned so players "MUST" purchase these changes with game money. Sure you can get game money by various means but ultimately, Devco wants you to buy their points to do these things with. There are many ingame items banned or restricted to ranks that if you want to use them, you will need to buy them with real money or have played on the servers for a good duration. Making money isnt a bad thing but removing so much of the modpacks so you can is wrong.
The servers are all setup through a hub and the hub is the main route of connection when first finding the Devco servers. This would be a good thing if things done after connecting via the hub wouldnt get lost on a disconnect. Hours of thaumcraft gone etc. Collected meta data doesnt get saved to the character file when connected via the HUB. Sounds simple to fix right? Long time coming.
Any modpacks with Galacticraft wont load correctly on server restarts as the devs havent force loaded the realms(planets). This was an issue I raised directly myself and was told to wait on a Galacticraft update.......... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA like thats gonna happen this year and even if it does, it wont be to fix that issue.
I was asked to remove my nether portal because it was causing lag ... for reals? nether portal? something thats part of the base game? NOT THE CAUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Someone found a bug and exploited it. Minor gains so nothing big but, devco banned the item related and not the player. So now everyone cant use that item and that player is still there to discover and abuse more exploits.
Ultimately, what my recommendation would be is to get rid of or properly fix DAP and tell the admins NOT to follow DAP as it will do whats needed on its own. The admins should concentrate more on issues not found, or misreported by DAP. Remove the word lag from the word filter or the word filter completely since half the time your chat doesnt go through even if there are no bad words in it.
There are many more issues but Im tired of typing.
PS>>>> Players get 20 points per server review. Keep that in mind when reading reviews.
The server replied:
1. There are many more tools all reporting the same lag issues then DAP. DAP is just the player available plugin
2. Networks have limited resources, including funding, to keep the servers running smoothly. That being said, the claim that TPS issues have lasted that long is frankly false. For our 1.7.10 servers, we have an entire section of staff members capable of attending to TPS issues as they arise, as we get automatic reports when a server isn't doing too well. If they aren't doing anything about the issue while they're online, try getting their attention.
3. Did you try making a ticket about this issue? Higher ranks of staff members have the ability to force completion of a defunct HQM quest for you, if you have met the requirements. Even better, actually giving us a ticket with details would more than likely lead to us making a workaround for that quest to avoid future occurrences, if possible. We've done it before.
4. The filtering of the word lag is a response to what is an irritant in the global chat. Especially if a staff member is already attending to TPS issues, having someone simply say "lag" does very little to help against the issue, or help the staff members. As I mentioned earlier, we get automatic reports when the TPS of a server is struggling, so we are already informed of the issue, and are likely on the way to handle it. On the other hand, we prefer if people actually tell us the TPS in global instead of simply saying "lag", because this not only gives us more detailed information, but will reduce the amount of people attempting to say "lag" as a reaction to FPS lag, which is not server-side and we cannot do much about. As for some messages not going though, this is a preventative effort to stop people from sending too many messages too quickly. The forums would be a good place to suggest changes or adjustments to it.
5. This is actually a bug with Waila, had you made a ticket about this we would have let you know to press numpad 0 to disable Waila while going through a nether portal
6. Any item or block capable of changing time or weather is not without a good reason to be limited or banned. The main reason these items are outright banned is because they could be automated; relatively easily no less, to essentially make the time or weather change constantly. This was very much the case for packs with witchery, were vampires could not survive in the sun and had to inflict a weather condition or time change on the entire server to move about as they pleased. As for the commands we offer; time and weather commands, even in the limited state they come in, are just as abusable as the time/weather controlling blocks. This is the reason why points need to be spent for access to the command or in-game money can be spent for a one-time use. As I mentioned, even once someone has access to the command, it's adjusted with a server-wide cooldown to avoid it's abuse.
7. This thaumcraft data was never lost to begin with, you simply need to log out and not connect through the hub; instead connecting through the server's individual address (sfw.devcoftb.net, for example). This is a known issue with thaumcraft, as it stores all of its data separately from your player.dat, thus reads separately when connecting to a server. An unintentional side effect of joining a server through the hub is this separate thaumcraft data isn't read properly... However, if you intend to say that you permanently lost progress by doing research while under this effect, I've found that you can't do much inside the actual research table at all, so it's a bit hard to believe you lost hours of work this way. Simply leaving and joining under the server's individual IP will resolve this issue, as your thaumcraft data was never overwritten.
8. We are not the mod author, thus we cannot and will not attempt to make any sort of adjustments to his mod. I myself have attempted to come up with a creative workaround quite a while ago (the world loading issue is pretty long lived, because the galacticraft dev has not fixed it)... Needless to say, we would love to hear about a way to work around it, and not be directly blamed for something we did not cause, nor have the ability to resolve...
9. Who in our staff ever told you to remove a nether portal because of lag? Our mods (along with staff above that) use profiling tools to locate anything in the world which is causing a significant issue in terms of TPS. While I highly doubt a nether portal was ever capable of causing enough of a problem to ever show up on a profiler, I'm more interested in who exactly told you to remove it; and for what purpose (for fps lag, or tps lag).
10. If this is to be considered feedback, we need more descriptive evidence instead of a vague claim. What you just claimed: "devco banned the item related and not the player" is basically the opposite of how we operate. We only ban items as a last resort, as there are often better alternatives to fixing the issue at its source. As for players abusing an exploit; they are breaking a server rule and will be banned before we ever consider banning an item. So if you would like to provide an example instead of a claim that has no specifics, please do.
As for getting points for reviews... even you are eligible for that as promised. We do not expect people to be extremely in depth about their experience, nor do we expect them to write short and simple reviews. We don't discriminate between positive reviews and negative reviews when giving rewards either; we want feedback more than anything. The only reason you, specifically, haven't gotten your reward automatically is because of the lack of the "IGN: <name>" at the top, which is the format required for it to work.

The essence of which makes this modpack is ruined due to strict server rules and glitches and bugs relating towards it. Furthermore my interaction with both the staff and the players were negative. Questioning some of the features of the server, such as rules. instantly had players and staff arguing with me and demanding i left. I believe this was disrespectful and unnecessary, My questions were easy to answer but yet were pushed aside.

There are better ones out there.
