Server is overpopulated because of a random youtuber. It started out pretty great, then during prime time it got super laggy, primarily due to overpopulation. The owner's response is to simply ban several items, some of which are pretty pivotal to progression like crafters. This is understandable on high traffic servers, but then out of nowhere they reset servers and created whitelists. Again understandable except the discord link doesn't work, and the website application doesn't work. All progress simply lost so that the youtuber and his friends can have priority.
The server replied:
Hello I'm sorry you had all these problems, I'd like to address them. Firstly I think it is very important that you have access to our discord because all of our updates and changelogs go there with information about why the server may be whitelisted for a short period of time etc. We have hundreds of active discord members so I'm afraid your issues with joining our discord and accessing our custom player portal may be one off, and would like to ask that you try from another browser.
Now to address "simply banning items". We take the time to profile the server using several different profiling tools from high level minecraft specific profiling tools to low level java profilers to detect resource usage and do not ban items without an alternative in place. For example you can still use one of the other crafters which still exist (although slower) in conjunction with compactors to accomplish most if not all tasks. The annoyance of slower crafing methods IMHO is worth having a playable experience on our servers.
Lastly we have not reset anything to date, I just visited your island to check that you did not have it reset in some weird way, which is not the case it is still there. We whitelist the servers, (never reset them) for short periods of time to debug TPS lag without more and more players coming into the server and making the problem worse for players that are already connected. This is usually a short process and we've been able to maintain an unwhitelisted uptime of nearly 98%. So your statement "All progress simply lost so that the youtuber and his friends can have priority." is not only false but is a disrespectful assumption made on a server that is completely free to play on and does not ask (or even allow) any users to make purchases.
Scalability concerns will be adressed over the week with the addition of 3 new servers running the modpack which will link together inventories, and the chat system so that every user has the option to move their island to a new server but still work together with players on other servers sharing the same progress across them all.
All server costs and admin paychecks are paid out of pocket because all we'd like to do is re-unite our community we had years ago and provide a fun place to play. I ask that in the future, even if it's not on one of our servers, that you take a moment to ensure your statements are factual because a lot of people work very hard on our servers, and I'm sure the same applies to other networks.
